~*~ Last Time on So Far Away ~*~
"They will hold." Aragorn answered. Gandalf sighed and turned to Shadowfax, petting his blonde mane gently."The Grey Pilgrim. That is what they used to call me. 300 lives of men I've walked this earth and now, I have no time." Gandalf began softly."Good luck. My search will not be in vain. Look to my coming, at first light, on the fifth day, at dawn, then look to the East." Gandalf finished and sweeps his leg over the white horse's back and settled down on the saddle."Go." Aragorn pushed on. Gandalf galloped out of the stables and out of the gates and onward north...

So Far Away
Chapter Nineteen

In the stables two men are trying to hold a wild, brown horse. The horse snorts an rears backwards. Eowyn was brushing her horse at the time and she turns to see what was wrong. Aragorn, who was holding a saddle in his arms set it down quickly as he watched the soldiers fail at calming down the horse, Aragorn sighs and walks over to the horse one of the soldiers noticed this."That horse is half mad, my lord. There's nothing you can do, leave him!" Aragorn ignored the man's warnings and continued to walk towards the wild beast. Grabbing the reins from the men he pulled on them slightly and set them down.

"Faeste, stille nu, faeste, stille nu. Lac is drefed, gefraegon."[1] Aragorn whispered in elvish softly trying to calm down the horse. The horse had stopped its rearing and snorted as it calmed odwn. Aragorn began to pat its neck gently, calming the horse even more."Hwaet nemnad de? Hm? Hwaet nemnad de?"[2] Aragorn asked soothingly and Eowyn walked up behind Aragorn."His name is Brego. He was my cousin's horse.." Eowyn stated calmly looking at Aragorn shocked."Brego? Din nama is cynglic."[3] Aragorn said softly and continues on petting the horse.

"Man le trasta, Brego? Man cenich?"[4] Aragorn continued."I have heard of the magic of Elves, but I did not look for it in a Ranger from the North. You speak as one of their own." Eowyn looked at Aragorn curiously hoping he would tell her of how he was able to speak the language of the graceful, calm, and beautiful immortal beings."I was raised in Rivendell... for a time, that is how I met Ainawen. Turn this fellow free, he's seen enough war." Aragorn whispered and walked out of the stables.

Ainawen stood next to Legolas and took his hand into her own."So Gandalf has left us?" Ainawen."Yes, he is going to find Eomer and the rest of the Rohirrium." Legolas answered and placed a soft kiss onto Ainawen's temple and caressed her cheek gently."Promise me, you will keep safe if we cannot avoid war at Helm's Deep." Legolas said worriedly."Legolas..." Ainawen began but was interrupted."Promise me!" Legolas pulled Ainawen into his embrace and held her tightly to chest."Promise me.." Legolas whispered sadly into Ainawen's ear."I promise.." Ainawen answered and kissed Legolas's cheek."Lady Serena!" Freda giggled and hugged Ainawen's leg."Will you ride with Eothain and me on our way to see mama!" Freda asked giddily.

Legolas gave her a questioning look and Ainawen laughed."Of course little one, go and get your brother and I'll let you ride with me on my horse." Ainawen answered and laughed at the child's innocent face brighten up at the answer. Freda ran off to find her brother to tell him the good news and Ainawen turned to Legolas."They were having trouble pronouncing my name so I gave them the one I used in the other world." Ainawen smiled and kissed Legolas and left to get Freda and Eothain. Legolas smiled as he watched his love walk away and went to find Gimli.

Eowyn bends down and opens a chest and pulls out a sword and unsheathes it. Taking in a deep breath and begins to practice with the blade. Swinging around her sword collided with Aragorn's dagger."You have some skill with a blade." Aragorn stated and sheathes his dagger. Eowyn does the same with her sword and glares at Aragorn.

"The women of this country learned long ago. Those without swords can still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain." Eowyn stated coldly."What do you fear my lady?" Aragorn asked curiously, but did not let it show on his face."A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire." Eowyn whispered harshly."You are a daughter of kings, a shieldmaiden of Rohan. I do not think that will be your fate." Aragorn stated and bowed, then walked out of the Golden Hall with Eowyn's eyes following him with surprise as he went.

Ainawen giggled as she saw Freda and Eothain petting the black stallion that the stablemen gave her. Walking over to the stallion and the children she patted the two on their heads and gently grabbed a hold of the horses mane and jumped up slightly and swung her leg of the horses back and took Eothain's hand and picked him up and sat him in front of her. Bending down slightly for Freda and grabbed the back of her dress and put her in front of her brother."There we go darlings, lets go find Lord Hama or Lord Gamling and see when we are leaving." Ainawen stated and smiled."Okay!" Freda and Eothain cried and laughed happily as they trotted down to the steps of the Golden Hall."Hama!" Ainawen yelled to get the attention of the soldier who was trying to make sure everyone was all right and if they didn't need any help. Looking around to see who called him Hama's eyes soon landed on Ainawen."Ah! Lady Ainawen, what is it that you need?" Hama asked and walked up and stood beside the tall beast that had Ainawen and the children from the day before situated on it.

"When are we leaving, dear soldier?" Ainawen asked a stern look upon her face."Well, my lady, If you know the way you can start leading the people who are ready and the rest will catch up but go slowly." Hama answered. Ainawen nodded and kicked the horse's sides slightly to get it to move forward."Everyone listen! If you are ready, please follow the Lady on the stallion, she will lead you until either I, Lord Gamling or the King are able to lead you!" Hama shouted over the commotion.

The huge crowd of bustling people seemed to lessen as the ones who were finished and just wnadering around waiting to leave were now slowly diminishing as Ainawen lead them from the city. Legolas was slowly beginning to panic when he found that Ainawen was not in Edoras, running up to Hama, Legolas began to play the game twenty questions, even though he's never heard of it before."Hama have you seen Ainawen!" Legolas panted and worry filled his eyes."Yes, My Lord, she is leading the people who have finished packing to Helm's Deep. If you wish to follow her you can, My Lord." Hama smiled at the Elf's position."Oh thank valor, thank you Hama." Legolas grabbed his gray and white stallion and galloped after the female elf. Hama shook his head and laughed. Aragorn smiled who had come up and stood next to Hama and chuckled."He acts like it's the end of Middle Earth if she is out of his sight." Aragorn began to laugh full heartedly.
