Legolas sighed and stoped what he was doing and turned to Aragorn."I can't help it Aragorn, she can be so infuriating and stubborn!"
"Kind of like you," Aragorn snickered.
"Yes, wait no!" Legolas glared at his long time friend and companion.
"Forgive me, Legolas, but it is true and it is indeed her stubborness and her infuriating ways that attracts you to her as well."
"That may be true, but I wish she would listen to me and not be so hard headed like, like a dwarf for one moment!" Legolas groaned.
"That will never happen old friend so you might as wel lface it now, she is never going to change." stated Aragorn.
"I can dream." said the elf.
"You can dream, but that dream will never be a reality!" Aragorn smiled and patted Legolas's shoulder and walked off to get Brego ready.
As Aragorn did so he noticed a familiar blond rohan princess saddling up.
"You ride with us?" Aragorn asked surprised.
"Just to the encampment. It's tradition for the Women of the Court to farewell the Men." Eowyn answered.
Aragorn nodded and lifted up the saddle blanket to see a sword. Eowyn quickly snatched it back down, hiding the sword once again.
"The men have found their captain. They will follow you into battle, even to death. You have given us hope."
She smiled slightly and walked away, leaving the older man to contemplate her words.
Ainawen came up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder ducking over so when he looked over his shoulder he would not see her at first. This caused him great confusion until he looked on his other side to see her there, making him jump back, slightly surprised.
"Ainawen! What in valor were you thinking?! You nearly stopped my heart!"
Ainawen laughed and shook her head.
"I am sorry Aragorn, but it was so deliciously tempting to do that!"
"You are just as mischievous as a hobbit! You are no longer to hang around Merry or Pipin for a long while!" Aragorn joked, but the smile left his face as he saw the sorrow slipping into her eyes.
"Ainawen I'm sorry.."
"No don't be, I just miss Pipin. I mean, we had just found him again and now... he's gone again. And may be gone forever."
"Do not think like that! It is not like you to think like that and I will not permit it." said Aragorn.
Ainawen nodded and wiped her eyes briefly.
Aragorn gave her a small hug and a brotherly peck on the cheek before heading off once more to get Brego ready for the trip towards Gondor. Towards the final battle.
"So, it is before the walls of Minas Tirith, the doom of our time will be decided." Theoden whispered over his people.
"Now is the hour! Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now fulfill them! For lord and land!" Eomer shouted, holding up his spear to lead the Rohirrim out of the gates of Edoras, followed closely by Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Ainawen, and the ever small Merry, and the Sailor Soldiers.
It took them near a half of a day to reach the Cut to Dunharrow, where the Rohan soldiers camped. Theoden rode through the paths between the tents followed by Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Ainawen.
"Grimbold, how many?" Theoden asked one of the many captains.
"I bring five hundred Men from the Westfold, My Lord." Grimbold replied.
Another soldier spoke up."We have three hundred more from Fenmarch, Theoden King!"
"Where are the riders from Snowbourn?" Theoden asked the soldier.
"None have come, My Lord."
Theoden and Aragorn arrived at the top of the camp standing on the edge of a cliff over looking the whole encampment.
"Six thoughsand spears, less than half of what I'd hoped for." Theoden sighed.
"Six thousand will not be enough to break the lines of Mordor.." Aragorn stated.
"More will come." Theoden hoped, but even he knew that was a lie.
"Every hour lost hastens Gondor's defeat. We have till dawn, thenwe must ride." said Aragorn.
Theoden only nodded in a response.
Nearby a few horses start rearing and neighing. Legolas and Ainawen walk up to them calming them immediately.
"The horses are restless and the Men are quiet." Legolas spoke.
"The grow nervous in the shadow of the mountain." Eomer told the elf.
"That road there, where does that lead?" Gimli questioned.
"That is the road to the Dimholt, the door under the mountain." Ainawen answered.
"None who venture there ever return." Eomer stated grimly.
Ainawen glared at the leader of the Rohirrim.
Aragorn strayed and stopped in front of the passage, he felt as though he was being pulled in there. he stared intently then his eyes narrowed when he noticed a strange green fog that slowly began to form into a face, then a body of a dead soldier.
"Aragorn!" Gimli shouted grabbing Aragorn's arm, startling him.
"Aragorn, come let's get something to eat." Gimli said, a glare forming towards the passage.
Aragorn nodded silently and followed the dwarf.
Darkness fell sooner than they expected, Ainawen sat next to Legolas and laid her head onto his arm.
"Thank you for letting me come.."
"You are welcome, I would rather you have stayed at Edoras." Legolas said, placing a kiss upon her forehead.
"I know, but I couldn't stand on the sidelines."
Legolas nodded and held her close to him.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Legolas."
