Disclaimer: Satoru Akahori, Ray Omishi, Media Works, Mixx & ADV have the rights to Sorcerer Hunters and Sorcerer on the Rocks (a.k.a. Chivas 1-2-3). The plot is based on a variety of fairy tales. I wish I owned Potato Chips since he's one of the funniest characters I've encountered in anime but I don't; just get rid of Jeeves and he becomes squeezable--perverted still, but squeezable. I own only the story text and concept.
"We're nearly there," she said with a small tremor in her voice. "But we aren't going to make it before the mirks come out."
"Mirks?" one of the boys managed around a wracking gasp.
"Oh, they're out there and they're hungry."
Carrot had managed to fall spread-eagled to the ground. "How big... are... they, anyway?"
Daughter held her hands about six inches apart. She explained before anyone else could protest, "But their size is not the issue. It's their sound, their cry drives the healthiest and strongest of men insane. As you writhe in insanity, scared beyond your mind's ability to cope, hundreds of mirks will cover you and devour your flesh."
"Be damned if I get eaten by a teeny tiny critter like that," the muscleman said.
"You know how big they are. Someone had to have survived these mirks," stated Marron. "How did they survive?"
The winged girl considered for a moment. "Light. They are too sensitive to light, so that will keep them away, but it won't keep you from running out into a mass of them in your insanity."
"Then, we must distract ourselves from their call." Marron hauled his older brother to his feet. "We must concentrate on anything but their cry and we must hurry on to shelter. Daughter?"
"Hmm...?"
"The palace is at the end of this path, correct?" She nodded. "Then, you must fly ahead to safety. As swift as you are, these mirks should not be able to touch you, also fly high."
She frowned. "Are you sure? You're only doing this to help me, after all."
"Sure we're sure," chimed in Carrot. "Actually, it'll be better this way because we'll know you're safe."
"Thank you, Carrot." She closed her eyes in a moment of prayer. "I'll be waiting at the end of the path. The mirks cannot leave the forest." With a kiss, she dissappeared into the twilight.
"I'd say this is the perfect time to get moving again," said Gateau making an example of himself, just as the first chatterings began.
